I’m Helen King, classicist and medical historian. After a career in UK higher education, ranging from Oxbridge to a former college of higher education, I decided to take my pension after 6 years at The Open University and then spent a year as a visiting professor at a liberal arts college, Gustavus Adolphus, in the US. Since then, I’ve been doing what I like, which is mostly writing: one of my recent books, Hippocrates Now, is available free to everyone on open access here. The latest book, firmly aimed at the widest possible audience, is Immaculate Forms, published in September 2024 by Profile Books (UK) and then in January 2025 by Basic Books (US/Canada).
